Subcommittees
At the Fall 2010 meeting of the CIO Council, several standing subcommittees were identified to advise the Vice Chancellor/CIO within the University System of Georgia. The full CIO Council membership approved the establishment of the standing subcommittees. All committees shall be reviewed annually for relevance of their charge and either perpetuated, amended, or terminated as needed. Chairs shall be selected annually, and Chairs will draft committee goals for the year, and report at quarterly CIO Council meetings on efforts and accomplishments. The Chairs will meet with the CIO Council Chair and the Vice Chancellor/CIO annually as they establish committee goals and as they close out the year so that respective committees remain aligned and productive.
In the event that a standing committee is not an ideal governance group for a specific need, any CIO Council member or the Vice Chancellor may present a request with written charge, composition, and term for a strategic committee to the Executive Committee. If approved, the Chair will send out request for members to the CIO Council if desired, or notify members of the committee composition. Otherwise, the request will be forwarded to an existing committee for consideration/response, and brought back to the next Executive meeting. Strategic committees shall be reviewed annually as described above.

To review the content of an IT Handbook which can be used as a standard framework to assist University System IT Leaders and auditors to guide and assess effectiveness of University System IT systems.

Collaborative and Distance Learning Committee
Charge
To keep the CIO Council informed about USG and institutional needs and initiatives in eLearning, and to serve as an interface with University System of Georgia Information Technology Services (ITS), Regents Advisory Committee on Distance Education (RACDE), Regents Advisory Committee on Academic Affairs (RACAA), and the Regents Academic Committee on Libraries (RACL).

Security Advisory Group (SAG) Committee
Charge
To facilitate small, focused discussions with the goal of developing deliberate and thoughtful recommendations that are made to the CIO Council as it strives to embrace industry best practices and endorse effective methods applicable to Information Technology security administration functions. Committee membership Includes USG Chief Information Security Officer (ex officio) and campus Information Security personnel who may not be CIO Council members.
Functional Responsibilities
Specific functions which the subcommittee will carry out will include:
- Providing more frequent communication to members.
- Providing a forum through which common concerns and priorities in the security arena can be considered, discussed, investigated and evaluated.
- Making thoughtful recommendations to the CIO Council for consideration by the full committee.
- Presenting meeting activities to the CIO Council.
- Serving as a project team on items delegated by the CIO Council.
- Advise the USG Chief Information Security Officer in information technology security and electronic privacy matters.
