Lexile Range Features in GALILEO Resources

The following tutorial will show you the Lexile features in GALILEO resources.

A Lexile score indicates the level of difficulty of reading materials and allows Georgia educators to match resources with any student’s reading level.

Several GALILEO databases for K-12 include a Lexile score with the article or book information and also let you limit your search to a certain Lexile range.

We will look at two examples of how GALILEO can help parents, teachers, students, and media specialists find articles and books at the right Lexile reading level.

First, we will use SIRS Issues Researcher to find an article.

In SIRS Issues Researcher, go to the Advanced Search, type in your search term, and add the Lexile range that you need. Notice you can see the Lexile score for each article.

Now, let’s look at how NoveList can help with finding books at the right Lexile level.

In NoveList, go to the Advanced Search, type in your search term, and select the Lexile range. Notice you can see the Lexile score for each article. Check the Lexile chart in NoveList if you aren’t sure about a student’s Lexile level and want to choose a Lexile score for a grade level.

We have looked at how to limit to a certain Lexile range in GALILEO databases to find articles and books. For more information on Lexile features in GALILEO, see the Lexile Framework and GALILEO handout.

This concludes this tutorial on using the Lexile features in GALILEO resources. If you have any questions, please check GALILEO Help for FAQs or use the Contact Us form to submit a comment. Thank you and Happy Searching.
