GIL Users Group Meeting 2007

2007 GIL Users Group Meeting
Thursday, May 17, 2007
8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Fort Valley State University

Dear Colleague:

We invite you to attend the 7th annual GIL Users Group Meeting, on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Fort Valley State University in the Pettigrew Center. This will be our first meeting at Fort Valley State which is a larger venue and we are very pleased for the opportunity to accommodate more attendees. Our keynote speaker will be the Chancellor of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, Erroll B. Davis, Jr.

Chancellor Erroll B. Davis Jr.

As chancellor of the University System of Georgia, Erroll B. Davis Jr. is responsible for the state's 35 public colleges and universities. The University System has 253,500 students, 35,000 faculty and staff, and an annual budget of $5 billion. Additionally, the University System of Georgia has administrative responsibility for the Georgia Public Library Service, which manages the state's 58 public library systems.

Davis, who took office on February 6, 2006, had served as chairman of the board of Alliant Energy Corporation, an energy holding company with $8.3 billion in total assets and annual operating revenues of $3 billion, since 2000. He joined Alliant in 1998 as president and chief executive officer. Davis retired from his dual roles as president and CEO in July 2005, and retained the chairman's post until his move to the University System.

In keeping with tradition, GUGM continues as a forum for ExLibris staff to update and inform the GIL community about the Voyager software and for us to continue to share best practices and learn from each other in software utilization and in serving library users. In essence, GUGM's program success, popularity and strength reside in the meeting being one we make and do for ourselves. Scanning the session abstracts, you will see the names of returning knowledgeable colleagues and become acquainted with new individuals who are for the first time sharing their expertise and talent, a direct reflection of this year's meeting theme "GUGM007: License to GIL."

GUGM 2007 is open to all USG library staff and to other Georgia ExLibris library staff.

The Fort Valley College Library tours will be offered at 8:30, 8:45 coinciding with the GUGM registration period. There will be one other opportunity at the end of the day at 4:30.

We look forward to seeing you for this exciting day in Fort Valley!

The successes that GALILEO has had in leveling the information access opportunities for the citizens of Georgia are being extended to University System's Libraries through GIL by providing students, faculty and staff expanded access to the information resources of the University System's Libraries.
