GALILEO Statistics Project: Status Report 6/2/04

Newly completed tasks:

1. Scheduled meeting of UGA, GSU, and BOR staff involved with usage statistics to discuss current reporting efforts and potential for cooperation. Meeting takes place 6/2/04.
2. Updated usage statistics documents page (http://www.usg.edu/galileo/statistics/documents.phtml) with FY03-04 technical college usage.

In-progress tasks:

1. FirstSearch usage reporting evaluation.
1. Donn Hoffmann and OCLC have created semi-annual reports for past usage for all communities, including searches and articles.
2. Reports organized by institution and autho—currently evaluating for addition to report generator.
2. SIRS usage reporting evaluation.
1. Monthly statistics reports now available by e-mail; past reports available online.
2. Reports organized by SIRS account name—need to create account name/ID key for addition to report generator.
3. Bowker usage reporting evaluation.
1. Monthly statistics available online.
2. Reports organized by Bowker account name—working with Bowker to revise account names to include IDs for addition to report generator.
4. Britannica reporting corrections.
1. Monthly reports available online; much of usage from April 2002 to present now included in report generator.
2. Some institution name corrections needed to complete addition—submitted information to Britannica, waiting for change to be completed.

Tasks to be addressed:

1. Develop prototype of new public GALILEO statistics reports generator.
2. Review what other national consortia are doing for collection and presentation of usage statistics and determine if their efforts can be leveraged or adopted.
3. Develop plan and steps for archival collection/storage for each product.

Previously-completed tasks:

9. Organize meetings to plan structure of new public and admin GALILEO statistics reports generator pages.
10. Focus group meeting held to gather specifications for NGE usage statistics.
11. Meeting held with NGE technical staff to discuss implementation of statistics focus group recommendations.
12. Focus group meeting held to gather specifications for DLG databases.
13. Add MLA, Agricola, EconLit, CINAHL, AHI, CMMI to EBSCO monthly data (retrospective and current).
14. Develop and test statistics program for LexisNexis, load 1/02-1/04 monthly reports.
15. Develop tracking mechanism for progress with database vendors. See table below.
16. Add GALILEO Usage Statistics Documents page to About GALILEO to make CY and FY reports available online. See http://www.usg.edu/galileo/statistics/documents.phtml.
17. Add GALILEO FY96-FY03 usage bar graph to main statistics page in About GALILEO.
18. Add Encyclopedia Britannica usage statistics to current GALILEO report generator.
19. Work with OCLC to create reports for past monthly usage of per-search and subscription databases.
