Printing Issues with Pay Edit, Pay Update, and other BOR Reports
First off, I'd like to thank the technical support personnel at Georgia College & State University for sharing with us their resolution to the printing issues witnessed at various institutions, specifically of Pay Edit and Pay Update, but also seen with other reports as well. Two common symptoms are: 1) report prints to a certain point and then either stops completely, or starts over from the beginning, wasting paper, or 2) report prints fine to a certain point, and then loses formatting.
For those of you who are experiencing this intermittent problem, please pass this information on to your local technical support team for analysis. Not all institutions may wish to enforce this resolution, due to local considerations.
GCSU gave the following instructions for how they fixed their Pay Edit printing problems on their campus:
- Open up the printer properties under Start => Settings => Printers, and open up that printer's properties.
- On the Advanced tab, select the radio button under the spooling section for "Start printing after last page is spooled" instead of "Start printing immediately". Note: if the options under this tab are greyed-out, the printer is a network printer and these options must be set on the server.
A few caveats to making this change:
- If the print job is interrupted for whatever reason, nothing will print.
- There must be enough hard drive space to spool the report.
- There will be a slight delay after the SQR completes, and when the report begins printing while the machine spools the document to the printer. Currently, reports print while the SQR runs.
