Future dating the Student Status date field in Dependent/Beneficiary panels
Please review and distribute the following issue as needed:
The field Student Status Date in Go > Compensate Employees > Administer Base Benefits > Dependent/Beneficiary has been determined to be unable to handle future dates. At this time, we recommend that users either leave this field blank, or input a date in the past rather than using this field to track a future change in student status (i.e. future graduation date).
When a future date is used in this field, the Process Overage Dependents procedure of the COBRA process will kick off an Overage COBRA event for these dependents using the dependent's birth date as the COBRA event date, as well as simultaneously removing the dependent from coverage by inserting a row in Health Benefits for the employee using the student's birth date as the effective date. In most cases, this effective dated Health Benefits row is so far in the past that it may not have any impact on the current effective dated row and the student may remain on coverage.
Users may also have problems adding an overage dependent to health coverage if they use a future date in the student status date field. If a future date is input on the Dependent/Beneficiary panel and the user attempts to insert a row in Health Benefits to add the dependent, an error message will appear saying:
Non-Student dependent 02 is ineligible for YYYY-MM-DD coverage due to age restrictions. (3000,476) [where YYYY-MM-DD is the effective date of the row to be inserted] To avoid this error, users will need to input a Student Status Date that is less than or equal to the effective date of the row to be inserted adding the dependent to coverage in Health Benefits. Users can also leave the Student Status Date field blank.
