PeopleSoft HRMS Known Issues and Information: Query Security

Please review and distribute this message as needed:

As you may be aware, the functionality of query security was enhanced as part of the latest release 2.07. We would now like to take this opportunity to clarify the steps each institution will need to take to maintain their current query security, as well as how to implement the new foptional functionality of query security. This is information that is in addition to our Security/Query Lockout Modification Document on our website: http://www.usg.edu:8087/HRMS.

In order to pursue the implementation of stricter query security during the payroll lockout process, the query menu item had to be deleted from all model classes. Then a separate class, M_QRY, was created that gives back query security access. However, this new class must be added to all operators that had the Query menu item removed as a result. It is possible that some users were not affected, for instance if they are given the Query menu item from a non-model class (a menu item only needs to be given to the operator from one class in order for that operator to have access to it).

Example:

An operator named JDOE might be a member of two classes, M_HRGRP and M_BNGRP. The actual menu item to access the query tool was deleted from both of those classes as part of Release 2.07, therefore when this user navigates to Go => PeopleTools => the Query item has been removed.

To add it back, the security administrator would have to perform the following steps:

  1. Login as the security administrator operator.
  2. Navigate to Go => PeopleTools => Security Administrator.
  3. Open the operator JDOE.
  4. From the menu, select Insert => Class.
  5. Select the M_QRY class.
  6. Save.

Once the operator profile is changed, JDOE will now have to log-out and log back in for this change to be made effective.

These steps will need to be repeated for any operator that had their Query menu item removed from the Go => PeopleTools menu, and to which you wish to restore query access.

To fully implement query security, and add it as a function of the security lockout process, proceed with step #3 on the Security/Query Lockout Modification Document on the website. However, this is optional, and should only be performed by those schools wishing to lockout users from running queries during a payroll. This will lockout all users that are members of the M_QRY class - it is all or nothing.
