KI0066 – Potential Warning Received when Modifying User Profiles after Release 3.21

SUBJECT: Error messages received when modifying existing user profiles after Release 3.21 which is scheduled for November 6, 2006.

PURPOSE: To alert campus security administrators and PeopleSoft users of error messages they might encounter when modifying an existing user profile in the PeopleSoft HRMS application.

FUNCTIONAL IMPACT: With the implementation of the self-service application, a stronger password control will be required starting November 6, 2006. All user passwords must be 8 characters in length with at least 2 digits. This change applies to all USG institutions. The following messages will be observed when a user whose password is less than 8 characters long or contains only 1 digit attempts to save the page after making changes to their user profile:
  • "Your password must be at least 8 characters long".

  • "Your password must contain 2 digits".

Any change to a user’s security profile will require a change the password so that it conforms to the new stronger password control. Security administrators are encouraged to advise all PeopleSoft users of this new requirement immediately.
