Biography

Micheal Crafton is currently the Provost at the University of West Georgia. Previously he served as the Interim Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for the University System of Georgia, which provides leadership for 29 institutions and 330,000 students. He was appointed Provost at West Georgia in 2014 where he oversees six colleges, an Honors College, the Library and numerous smaller units. Prior to that he served as Provost for Clayton State University in southern part of Metro Atlanta from 2009 to 2014. He also holds the position of Professor of English and over the past 30 years has taught both at Clayton State and at the University of West Georgia courses in Chaucer, medieval literature, the history of the English language, and critical theory. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1986, after which time he completed a year-long postdoctoral study. As an administrator he is active in AAC&U and AASCU as well as System projects. As a scholar he continues to stay involved with publishing and presenting on medieval subjects.
