New DOAS Driver Training Video

On April 14, 2008, DOAS Commissioner Brad Douglas emailed all USG institution presidents about a new short video on safe driving. DOAS is requesting that every state employee view this video, which was produced by Ed Finnegan, Risk Management’s Auto Liability Program Director.

This video is the latest in a series of training messages and videos sent to agencies and universities across the state from the Auto Liability division.

In this newest video, Ed demonstrates the Do's and Don’ts of Safe Driving. DOAS is requesting that all staff view the video and complete the Acknowledgement Form. Viewing the video and completing the form only takes a few minutes.

Southeastern Colleges and Universities Commit To EPA’s Voluntary Self-Audit Program

On June 25, 2007 EPA and Emory University hosted a signing ceremony for participating southeastern colleges and universities who have joined together and agreed to conduct voluntary self-audits under EPA Region 4’s College and University Compliance Incentive Initiative. The voluntary self-audits, performed pursuant to the Audit Agreement signed today will assist 101 private colleges and universities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, and three public universities in Alabama to achieve better compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Although not signatories to the June 25th agreement, there are approximately 100 other southeastern colleges and universities also pursuing voluntary self-audits under Region 4’s College and University Compliance Incentive Initiative.

VSU Puts Emergency Reference Guide Online

At Valdosta State University (VSU), students, staff and faculty don't have to hunt for their Emergency Reference guide to find out how to respond during an emergency. The Environmental and Occupational Safety department has made the Guide available to the campus community through the department's web site.

Users can download the full Guide or quickly navigate through the table of contents to specific sections. The Guide covers responses to such situations as bomb threats, medical emergencies, fire and explosion, power outages, and severe weather.
