Asbestos Abatement

This guideline applies to asbestos abatement projects performed under public works contracts in University System of Georgia (USG) facilities, and includes recommended procedures and information to facilitate the successful completion of such projects. It is structured in specification language format to assist campuses in the preparation of bid packages for asbestos abatement projects.

Design Criteria for Laboratories

This design criteria (DC) establishes minimum design requirements for laboratory furniture, fume hoods, and safety devices to provide a safe work environment and prevent undesirable exposures to chemical contaminants among students, faculty, and staff in University System of Georgia (USG) laboratories.

Construction, Renovations & Real Estate Transfers

This guideline covers the procedures for environmental evaluations of University System of Georgia (USG) construction and renovation projects and real estate transfers. These evaluations, which include environmental site assessments (ESAs) and evaluations under the Georgia Environmental Policy Act (GEPA), must be performed prior to initiating work.

Generator Fuel Storage Systems

This document, which was developed by the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA), provides design guidelines for the fuel storage systems associated with standby and emergency generators located at State of Georgia facilities.

Lead Based Paint Abatement

This document provides guidance to facilities planners, project designers, staff project managers and campus Environmental Safety personnel who may need to render judgments as to whether to inspect University System of Georgia (USG) facilities or remove or otherwise contain lead-based paint (LBP) prior to renovation or demolition.

Storm Water Permitting (NPDES)

This guideline applies to University System of Georgia (USG) construction activities which may result in soil erosion and the movement of sediments into state waters or onto lands, including, but not limited to, clearing, dredging, grading, excavating, transporting, and filling of land. D i sturbance of 1 or more acres of land requires coverage under one of the general storm water permits issued by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD).
