Get Involved as a College or Community Volunteer

Volunteers are a vital part of Georgia Apply to College and are key to the success of the events at the participating high schools. Volunteers provide assistance by:

  • Helping students logon to GAcollege411.org
  • Guiding graduating seniors through the college application process
  • Sharing their college experiences
  • Inspiring seniors to bigger and better things

Volunteers do not need to be experts on GAcollege411 or the college admissions process. All that is needed is an interest in helping students take the first big step towards continuing their education following high school. We provide training and a handbook to help with the rest!

How to Become a Volunteer

Volunteering is as easy as these three steps:

  1. View the list of participating schools to find a school near you that works with your schedule.
  2. Contact the school to let them know you are interested.
  3. View the online Volunteer Training prior to the school's event and review the Volunteer Handbook for additional tips on how to have a positive and rewarding volunteer experience.

Volunteer Training

To help volunteers prepare to provide assistance to students during the Georgia Apply to College (GAC) events, we have created a Georgia Apply to College Volunteer Training video. By watching the video, volunteers can get the information they need to have a fun and positive GAC experience. We recommend that all volunteers watch the video before participating in their first Georgia Apply to College event.

The Georgia Apply to College program is grant-funded so data collection is key to our future success. By providing the following information, you can help us continue the program in the future.

  • College Is For Everyone Flyer (PDF)
The "College is for Everyone" flyer is a great way to spread the word about GAcollege411 and to encourage students to start thinking about continuing their education following their high school graduation. We encourage those working with groups of students or interacting with students during college access events to make the flyer available for distribution. Copies of the flyer can be ordered at no cost by emailing collegeaccessitems@usg.edu. Please specify the number of flyers needed and provide your mailing address in your email.
  • Friday Night Lights "How To" Guide (PDF)
The Friday Night College Lights "How To" Guide provides easy steps for a community group(s) or individuals to "adopt" an upcoming high school football or basketball game as the event for drawing students to the GAcollege411.org website and its many resources. It's also a great lead-in and marketing for Georgia Apply to College events.
  • Volunteer Resources Available on GAcollege411
The Motivational Modules found on GAcollege411 are a great way for you to help students in your community to plan for educational pursuits beyond high school. Each module is an all-inclusive packet with colorful slides, take-home guides, ice breakers, talking points and activity sheets. Users are welcome to modify the modules or select to use all or parts of the activities/material to fit the needs of the group.
