(Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching)
A free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and students in higher education, MERLOT allows faculty to enhance instruction with a continually growing collection of online learning materials, assignments and reviews. University System of Georgia is one of 23 partners in the MERLOT project (see MERLOT Tasting Room for a description of the project). Supporting MERLOT's faculty community, the USG sponsors faculty reviewers for eight disciplines--Business, Physics, Teacher Education, Biology, History, Music, World Languages, and Health Sciences. - Electronic Campus Initiatives
Electronic Campus Initiatives is your gateway to information about policy, programming and services supporting the South's "electronic marketplace" for online learning-SREB's Electronic Campus and TheTeacherCenter. From the ongoing efforts in the Distance Learning Policy Laboratory, the Adult Learning Campaign and Nurse Educator Project, and other information about efforts to promote online learning and the removal of barriers many learners encounter.
Professional Development
Facilitating Learning Online (FLO)
Facilitating Learning Online (FLO) is a 8 week continuing education course designed by ALT and offered through "North Georgia College and State University's" Continuing Education Department. FLO provides participants with a facilitated, self-contained, and experiential learning environment, lead by experienced online instructors. Course participants will also receive a solid foundation in educational pedagogy, experience communicating in online discussion areas and working in online groups. Participants will need to commit about four-six hours per week for 8 weeks.Audience
FLO is designed for faculty who are thinking about or beginning to facilitate online courses, or who have decided to augment traditional classroom instruction with online course materials. FLO also offers opportunities for Teaching Assistants and students in instructional technology, adult learning, communications, and other programs of study.Access to Course
North Georgia College and State University will administer the FLO course and hire course facilitators. For registration, call 706-864-1918 to register or access the website at http://www.ngcsu.edu/ce/flo_page.htm. Other institutions may opt to have course sections created for internal use only facilitated by experienced FLO facilitators.

University System of Georgia colleges and universities offer over 100 programs, available from a variety of USG Institutions, where at least 50 percent of a degree is available via distance learning technologies [online, video conferencing (GSAMS), video cassette, telecourse, satellite]. Includes collaborative eCore, WebMBA & WebBSIT programs. Programs generally follow a semester-based institution calendar. - Online Teacher Education Opportunities in Reading, Special Education and ESOL
University System of Georgia institutions offer a variety of add-on certifications and endorsement targeted for current and future Georgia educators. Special education, ESOL and reading certifications and endorsements available. Programs generally follow a semester-based institution calendar. - University
System of Georgia Independent and Distance Learning
Print- or web-based courses available year round. These self-paced courses are not dependent upon a regular semester calendar. Students typically have 1 calendar year to complete studies.
