2.08.04: Grandfather Issue/Regents Test

SUBJECT: Regents' Testing Program: "Grandfather" Issue
SOURCE: Memorandum from the Chancellor to the Presidents, 5/3/76

PROCEDURES

The Board of Regents adopted a policy statement in November, 1972 making a satisfactory score on the Regents' Test a requirement for graduation. Students that had accumulated 76 quarter hours or more prior to the beginning of Fall Quarter, 1972 were not required to take the Regents' Test.

It was reasonable to expect that these students would complete their degree by Summer, 1974. It has been brought to our attention, however, that some institutions have interpreted the 76 or more hours prior to Fall Quarter, 1972 to be an indefinite exemption.

It is understood that with few exceptions institutions are now requiring all students to comply with this test requirement as stipulated by the Board policy. Any previous exemption granted to students based on number of hours earned is to be terminated no later than the beginning of the 1977 Winter Quarter.
