Academic Affairs Handbook: Preface

The purpose of this Handbook is to offer easy reference to policies and procedures that affect the day-to-day operation of the office of the chief academic officer of the institutions of the University System of Georgia.

The Handbook contains specific procedural information, indicating the source of the information given, and is organized into four major sections with a page numbering system that will allow for updating on a regular basis.

Effective 1997, the Handbook is available on www.peachnet.edu.

In the future, updates will be made on a regular basis, and the Handbook will apprise you as to the dates when updates have been made. It is the responsibility of the Office of Academic Affairs at each institution to ensure that all holders of the Handbook have an updated version.

The authoritative source of information concerning Board approved policies and procedures governing academic matters is The Policy Manual of the Board of Regents. Relevant policies are found primarily in three sections: 300 - Academic Affairs, 400 - Student Affairs, and 800 - Personnel. Since the Academic Affairs Handbook may be more readily available to administrators, faculty, and staff than the Policy Manual, relevant policies from the manual have been duplicated in this handbook, often supplemented with information concerning interpretation or procedural instructions. In the event of conflict between this handbook and The Policy Manual, however, the Board Policy Manual prevails.
