Board of Regents Update.
John Wolfe, Associate Vice Chancellor of Faculty Affairs, addressed the Academic Advisory Committee. The Vice Chancellor's comments included the changes in the Strategic Plan, the upcoming budget cuts for the next two years, the hiring slowdown, the status of the hiring search for a new Chancellor, the review of the BOR Policy Manual, including the sick leave policy and other related topics. -
Tom Ford provided the members with a guided tour of the new facility at CSU. He recommended that those who are building new facilities should pay close attention to possible inconsistencies between the architect's plans and the actual facility being built.

The College/University representatives took time to share new and exciting happenings from their respective campuses. Discussion topics included: construction of new buildings on campus, continuing education, SACS, and program changes.

Jim Lidstone, Tom Ford, and Grace James discussed issues relating to program philosophy. Topics included mission statements, goals, curriculum and program learning outcomes.

A panel presentation, led by Richard Oates, Deborah Dowdy, and Glen Preston, reviewed professional development plans and the financing of professional development for the next two fiscal years.

Jim McMillan, representative from Georgia Southern, provided the group with ideas for production of revenue, including offering swimming lessons to creating a haunted forest.

Greg Hawver of Georgia Southwestern discussed leadership development, citing exemplary leadership programs offered at institutions such as Harvard Institute of Higher Education, American Council on Education Fellows Program, and College Business Management Institute.

Walt Mason and Tom Ford led a session addressing the following topics: 1) Faculty teaching loads, 2) Budgeting for the next two fiscal years, and 3) Transferability from two-year colleges to four-year colleges and universities.

Spring meeting was announced and scheduled for April 4, 2002, at Callaway Gardens.

Academic Advisory Committee for HEPER dismissed at noon on October 19, 2001.
