The meeting was held at Georgia College & State University's Macon Campus located in the CIGNA Building on October 23, 1998.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes from the April 24, 1998, meeting were approved.
Updates from the Central Office
Judy Monsaas gave the committee an update from the Central Office. She provided a handout and led a discussion pertaining to the "Recommended Board Actions to Implement the Principles for the Preparation of Educators for the Schools". Dr. Monsaas noted that Principles #3 and #4 specifically pertained to graduate teacher education programs. She also discussed some of the issues surrounding admitting students with degrees from non-accredited schools.
1998 Leadership Development Seminar
Emma Simon discussed some of the financial issues pertaining to the 1998 Leadership Seminar. Also, a financial report showing a $4,890.96 balance was provided.
Dick Diebolt distributed copies of the Participant Evaluation Summary for the 1998 Leadership Development Program.
Committee assignments for the 1999 Leadership Development Seminar are listed below:
- Program: Jack Jenkins, Tina Straley, Lee Formwalt, and Lynda Woodruff
- Accounting: Gary Bond and Ken Jones
- Registration Packet and Printing: Emma Simon and Gary Bond
- Recreation and Entertainment: Alfred Owens
- Evaluation and Follow Up: Dick Diebolt and Marilyn Newhoff
- Lodging, Food, and Meeting Rooms: Robert Yancy, Emma Simon, Gary Bond, and Ken Jones
Bob Yancy led a discussion pertaining to the historical background of the Leadership Development Seminar and suggested reasons for not inviting family members of participants. After further discussion, the committee voted to continue the practice of participants only attending and to continue restricting long distance phone calls.
Tracking Student Participants
Gary Bond gave an update on the importance of tracking the Leadership Development Seminar participants. He asked each school to provide a list of names and social security numbers by year since 1995.
Update on Vision Statement
Dick Diebolt gave a handout and update on the Vision Statement on Graduate Education developed by the committee.
Dates and Location of 1999 Leadership Development Seminar
The 1999 Leadership Development Seminar will be held on Jekyll Island at Jekyll Inn on Saturday, April 17th through Monday, April 19th.
