Meeting Minutes: Committee on Graduate Work

Administrative Committee on Graduate Work (ACOGW)
Meeting Minutes
April 6, 2001

The Academic Committee on Graduate Work (ACOGW) met at Jekyll Island, Georgia on Friday, April 6, 2001 at 4:30 PM at the Jekyll Inn Hotel. Those present included Bob Yancy, George Williams, Ken Jones, Dick Diebolt, John Wolfe, Steve Ross, Cathy Rozmus, Jack Jenkins, Emma Simons, Diane Frink, Paul Beyer, and Keith Oden.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.

Chairman Jenkins called on Dr. John Wolfe, Jr. of the Regents Office to give a report. Dr. Wolfe stated that no feedback or resolutions had been made regarding tuition waivers for graduate students or off-campus courses for graduate schools. He further noted that Frank Butler had been named as the new Vice Chancellor. Dr. Butler will begin work on July 1, 2001.

Dr. Wolfe next noted that all campuses had received a request from the central office to identify current Regents policies needing revision or deletion. The process of reviewing the policies so identified will be addressed in three steps. By May of 2001, those policies that are the least controversial will be considered. Those policies requiring some discussion will be addressed in September of 2001. A special committee will address the most controversial policies and make its decision on them by March, 2002.

Attention turned next to the Leadership Development Seminar. Dr. Jenkins noted that while the budget was close, everything seemed in place for a good LDS '01.

In the absence of a report from the Nominating Committee for a Vice

Chairman of ACOGW for 2002, Dr. Jenkins called for nominations from the floor. Dr. Ross nominated Dr. George Williams of Savannah State University.

There being no further nominations, they were closed. By acclimation, Dr. Williams was elected to the position of Vice Chairman of ACOGW for the year 2002.

Finally, there was a discussion about the best date for the 2002 Leadership Development Seminar. It was decided that if Easter did not occur on the third Sunday in April, 2002, that LDS would be held April 19th through 21st, 2002.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:30 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steve Ross
Vice Chairman, ACOGW 2001
