Business Meeting:
The business meeting was called to order by the chair Kathy Sisk at 11:20 April 24, 1998. On a motion by Jerry Adkins and seconded by Roger Lamprey the minutes of the last meeting were recommended for approval. A vote was taken and the minutes were approved by the committee.
Subcommittee Reports
The Faculty Development Subcommittee chair, Lee Southard, submitted a faculty development grant for approval. The grant to provide funds for faculty development in the area of object oriented programming concepts was approved and will be finalized by representatives from Macon State College and sent forward to the Board of Regents within two weeks.
The Curriculum Committee chaired by Gerald Adkins discussed and presented a recommended list of C++ and Java textbooks for use by faculty at the University System Schools. The textbooks were rated as to their coverage of course material. Gerald emphasized to the committee that the absence of a textbook from the list did not mean that the book was not recommended. The book may not have been considered by the committee. Gerald plans to continue to collect information on the textbooks and will make this available to the committee.
The Recruitment and Retention of CS faculty Committee did not meet.
The executive committee met prior to the meeting and made the following recommendations to the faculty:
The next meeting should be held April 8 - 9, 1999 and should start on Thursday and continue through Friday. It was also recommended that a dinner be scheduled Thursday night.
It was also recommended that a web site be setup for the archival of information relating to the committee. Eraj Basnayake was asked if he would maintain the web site and he agreed. He requested that anyone with copies of minutes send them to him.
The committee recommended that the BOR representative be invited to the next meeting to attend both faculty development and other activities of the committee.
Elections were held to elect the chair for 1999-2000 time period. The executive committee recommended Gerald Adkins for the position. Nominations from the floor were accepted but no nominations were forthcoming and Gerald Adkins was elected by acclamation.
There being no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 12:15 hours April 25, 1998.
