This year's grants require collaboration of two or more academic advisory committees. It was suggested the Business, Management and Economics Committee investigate a collaborative partnership with the Mathematics and Computer Science Committee.

Next, Bud Miller and Bruce Jones presented "The Laptop Program at Clayton And Floyd--Past, Present and Future" in which they detailed history and outcomes of the laptop program at their two institutions. The program was interesting as it detailed the progress of the program and highlighted suggestions for changes. Their presentation then stimulated a discussion of on-line courses and programs currently available and underdevelopment in the University System. Several sources for on-line course components were suggested by Jo Ann Jones, Carl Godding an Jeff Gibbs including the website www.merlot.org.

Frank Lazzara from Columbus State University followed with a presentation on the IBM AS /400 program. Those interested in learning more should contact Linda Grigoleit at IBM or e-mail Frank at: lazzara_frank@colstate.edu. The discussion turned to ICAPP partnership and Economic Development Information Sources. The site www.cgeorgia.com was suggested as a resource for regional economic development information.

David Morgan then presented an update from the Regents Office Items discussed included a legislative update, information on proposed changes to the budget, the final report of the education coordinating committee and the University System Benchmarking project. It was decided to move the break-out session to the morning and there being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.

The second day of meetings, February 18, 2000, began at 8:30 a.m. with the two and four year break-out sessions. The groups re-convened for a presentation by Steve Payne, Georgia College and State University, on the Benchmarking project. The study and items for assessment were discussed. New members were solicited and it was suggested the two-year institutions consider putting together a group of five institutions to create their own benchmarking group.

Dr. Richard Skinner, President and CEO of Georgia GLOBE presented a program on the University System of Georgia GLOBE project. This innovative and creative program is designed to answer the call for on-line courses and degrees and to coordinate the BOR institutions efforts to provide distance learning opportunities to the citizens of Georgia.
