About Us

Print friendly Modified March 21, 2012

The Office of Academic Planning is responsible for the Academic & Student Affairs Handbook. This electronic edition of the Academic & Student Affairs Handbook, like its printed predecessors, is issued by the Office of the Academic Affairs at the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and is intended primarily to provide information for the general guidance of faculty members and administrators, particularly newcomers, concerning the Board of Regents Policy and Academic & Student Affairs procedures. Academic Planning also collaborates with Facilities and Fiscal Affairs in the building, renovation and acquisition of buildings.

Recognizing that change is continual, i.e. new policies, procedures are modified, new programs come into being, the administrative organization is altered; this Handbook will be updated as necessary. When circumstances require assurance of completeness or validity of information, the Office of Academic Planning should be consulted. The Board of Regents website (http://www.usg.edu/policymanual/) should be accessed for the current versions of all policies. In addition, the staff of the Office of Academic Affairs at the Board of Regents will be pleased to offer any assistance.

The Office of Academic Planning is responsible for the coordination of 24 academic Regents Advisory Committees. The Academic Advisory Committee members are appointed annually by the institutional Vice President of Academic Affairs. Each committee has a USG Liaison. The committee members:

  • Make recommendations on new programs of instruction in the discipline or disciplines within the purview of the committee
  • Create reports and recommendations concerning the improvement of instruction and the curriculum
  • Exchange information and ideas
  • Work to improve articulation and coordination between units of the University System of Georgia
  • Consider any other matters requested by the Executive Vice Chancellor/Chief Academic Officer or his/her representative.

The Office of Academic Planning also coordinates 28 administrative Regents Advisory Committees. The Administrative Advisory Committee members are aligned with job functions performed at the BOR institutions. Each committee has a USG Liaison. The committee members:

  • Coordinate procedures required by BOR policy, in a manner to ensure similarity of function across the System
  • Create reports and recommendations concerning the improvement of administrative rules and procedures
  • Exchange information, ideas and best practices
  • Work to improve the articulation process between units of the University System of Georgia
  • Consider any other matters requested by the Executive Vice Chancellor/Chief Academic Officer or his/her representative
